Review of Linux Compatibility

The Asus Xonar U3 is a compact sound card in an USB-2.0 stick. The stick provides analog in- and outputper 3,5 mm stereo jack as well as a digital S/PDIF output (optical, Toslink).

The stick has the USB ID 0b05:17a0

Bus 002 Device 002: ID 0b05:17a0 ASUSTek Computer, Inc.

and is recognized by Ubuntu 11.10 automatically. The analog in- and output are fully supported. Although the S/PDIF output is working with Linux, the volume can not be controlled with the currently available driver.

A patch for the missing S/PDIF volume control is already available, and is already part of the Linux kernel 3.8-rc1:
