Review of Linux Compatibility
The TP-Link TL-WN851ND is a PCI wireless card with 300 MBit (802.11n) transmission rate and bases on the Atheros chipset (Atheros AR9227).
The card has the PCI ID 168c:002d and is supported out-of-the-box since Ubuntu 10.04 (Linux kernel version 2.6.32) without the need of additional configuration:

There was a bug in the ath9k kernel driver that resulted in a freeze of the whole system while using the TL-WN851ND. This bug got patched in Linux kernel 3.5-rc6.
