Examen de compatibilité avec Linux

The Epson Home XP-205 is a All-in-One printer that can be accessed by WiFi. The color ink printer has a resolution of up to 5760×1440 dpi and is fully supported by Linux. The Epson- driver epson-201202w is used for this printer.

The printer driver as well as the driver for the scanner are available for download at the Epson homepage (in RPM or DEB file format). To find the drivers one has to enter in the « XP-205″ in the Epson Linux search filed to get to the driver download.

For the operation of the scanner it is necessary to install the SANE library:

sudo apt-get install libsane-extras

The proprietary scanner driver provided by Epson installs the program « iscan ». This program is a a simple scanner frontend and only works for Epson scanners. Additionally the Epson driver installs a Gimp plugin, that allows accessing the scanner from Gimp.

4.5 stars, works good for me.
    Two mayor cons:
    - Missing installation-documentation for linux
    - Its not clear how to connect the printer to the wifi if the router does not support WPS

Here some details for the installation:

On the epson-website, download ALL of the packages, listed there, not just the full-feature driver.
For my system ( debian, 64bit amd) I got:
    epson-inkjet-printer-201202w_1.0.0-1lsb3.2_amd64.deb
    epson-inkjet-printer-escpr_1.3.0-1lsb3.2_amd64.deb
    iscan_2.29.2-1~usb0.1.ltdl3_amd64.deb
    iscan_2.29.2-1~usb0.1.ltdl7_amd64.deb
    iscan-data_1.24.0-2_all.deb

Install all the packages with the package-manager of your system. For me that is:
    sudo dpkg -i *.deb
Satisfy missing all dependencies by as well installing them.

Now you already can install the printer via cups if you connect it do usb.

If you want to use the Wifi, first you need to connect the printer to your wifi-network. There are different possibilities to do so:
    1. WPS – If your router supports that, you can press the (software)button for it on the router and than press the wifi button on the printer for 3 sec.
2, WPS-Pin I dont know the details for that. However if you print the router info-page( button next to wifi ), he prints as well a WPS-pin which can be used for connection.
    3. ??? Probably there is a way to directly put a WPA-password on the printer via usb .. however, no idea how this can be done via linux.

Now you can check the ip-address of the printer in the dhcp-table of your router. ( You as well can print the info-page if you prefere ) .. on some routers you need to make the ip address of the device static.

In order to make the scanner to work, you need to install libsane, like op told. As well you need to modify one file:
    sudo gedit /etc/sane.d/epkowa.conf

if you use usb, you need to add something like:
    usb 0x4b8 0x????
( I forgot the device id for the printer … you can get it via “sudo lsusb”)

If you want to connect via wifi, comment out the autodiscovery and enter the following:
    net xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
(fill the ip-address of the printer in for the xxx )

You can test the scanner-connection e.g. by writing scanimage -L
