Revisión de Compatibilidad con Linux

The Intel Centrino Advance-N + WiMAX 6250 is a Mini-PCI-Express card to extend a Laptop with WiFi and Wimax. The card is automatically recognized and fully supported since Ubuntu 11.04 (a driver is also available for older kernel versions, however in this case the driver has to be compiled per hand).

The Mini PCI-Express card supports WiFi with a transmission rate of up to 300 Mbit/s and supports WiMax according to IEEE 802.16 standard with up to 28 Mbit/s downlink and up to 8Mbit/s uplink.

The card exists in at least two different version which show the following PCI IDs:

03:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Intel Corporation Centrino Advanced-N + WiMAX 6250 [8086:0089] (rev 35)
	Subsystem: Intel Corporation Centrino Advanced-N + WiMAX 6250 2x2 ABG [8086:1316]
	Kernel driver in use: iwlwifi

 Network controller [0280]: Intel Corporation Centrino Advanced-N + WiMAX 6250 [8086:0087] (rev 5f)
	Subsystem: Intel Corporation Centrino Advanced-N + WiMAX 6250 2x2 AGN [8086:1301]
	Kernel driver in use: iwlwifi

Both version are supported by the Kernel driver iwlwifi, which loads automatically:

iwlwifi: Intel(R) Wireless WiFi Link AGN driver for Linux, in-tree:

Two firmware files are necessary to access this card. Without these files the loading of the driver will fail and produce the following error:

i2400m_usb 2-1.5:1.0: WiMAX interface wmx0 (00:11:22:33:44:55) ready
i2400m_usb 2-1.5:1.0: fw i6050-fw-usb-1.5.sbcf: cannot load file: -2
i2400m_usb 2-1.5:1.0: Could not find a usable firmware image
i2400m_usb 2-1.5:1.0: cannot bootstrap device: -2
i2400m_usb 2-1.5:1.0: cannot setup device: -2
i2400m_usb: probe of 2-1.5:1.0 failed with error -2
usbcore: registered new interface driver i2400m_usb

If the firmware file is not already included in the used Linux distribution, it can be downloaded from intellinuxwireless.org and has to be copied to /lib/firmware/ after unpacking of the downloaded file.

The second firmware file i2400m-fw-1.5.0.tar.bz2 is needed to activate the WiMAX capabilities of the card. The downloaded archive includes two .sbcf files. Both have to be copied to /lib/firmware/. Access rights have to be adapted for these files:

sudo chown root:root /lib/firmware/*.sbcf
sudo chmod 644 /lib/firmware/*.sbcf

After a reboot of the system the driver loads automatically together with the firmware files:

i2400m_usb 2-1.5:1.0: WiMAX interface wmx0 (00:11:22:33:44:55) ready
i2400m_usb 2-1.5:1.0: firmware interface version 9.3.2
usbcore: registered new interface driver i2400m_usb
