Review of Linux Compatibility

The Logitech M570 is a wireless trackball and is supported under Linux. The trackball communicates with the PC over the included Logitech Unifying Receiver.

Bus 002 Device 004: ID 046d:c52b Logitech, Inc. Unifying Receiver

The additional buttons which are present on the trackball in addition to the left, right and middle mouse button can be used in Xorg by adding the following lines in the file /etc/X11/Xorg.conf:

Section "InputDevice"
    Identifier "Mouse0"
    Driver "mouse"
    Option "Protocol" "ExplorerPS/2"
    Option "Device" "/dev/mouse"
    Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
    Option "ButtonMapping" "1 2 3 6 7 10 11"
    Option "Emulate3Buttons" "false"

The additional buttons can be assigned to special functions or programs by tools like easystroke. This tool can be installed in Debian based Linux distributions by

sudo apt-get install easystroke

It provides a graphical interface to assign functions to the additional buttons. Configuration mode is started by

easystroke -g
