Review of Linux Compatibility

The MSI Digi Vox Ultimate HD (not to be mixed up with the “Ultimate HD Pro”) is a USB stick with DVB-T tuner and has the USB ID 048d:9135:

ID 048d:9135 Integrated Technology Express, Inc. Zolid Mini DVB-T Stick

The stick is recognized under Linux (since at least Ubuntu 12.04) and supported, however, the matching firmware file has to be created first.

The stick is available in two different version. The version number of the stick is shown in the log files (command “dmesg”) after the MSI Digi Vox Ultimate HD is plugged in:

usb 1-3: new high speed USB device number 11 using ehci_hcd
it913x: Chip Version=01 Chip Type=9135

Version 1:

Version 1 of the stick shows the following output in dmesg

it913x: Chip Version=01 Chip Type=9135

To get the matching firmware file for this version, the following file has to be copied to /lib/firwmare :

wget http://www.ite.com.tw/uploads/firmware/v3.6.0.0/dvb-usb-it9135.zip
unzip dvb-usb-it9135.zip
dd if=dvb-usb-it9135.fw ibs=1 skip=64 count=8128 of=dvb-usb-it9135-01.fw
sudo cp dvb-usb-it9135-01.fw /lib/firmware/

Version 2:

Version 2 of the stick produces the following output in dmesg:

it913x: Chip Version=02 Chip Type=9135

This version needs a different firmware file, which can be created in the following way:

wget http://www.ite.com.tw/uploads/firmware/v3.6.0.0/dvb-usb-it9135.zip
unzip dvb-usb-it9135.zip
dd if=dvb-usb-it9135.fw ibs=1 skip=12866 count=5817 of=dvb-usb-it9135-02.fw
sudo cp dvb-usb-it9135-02.fw /lib/firmware/

For both version the kernel modul dvb-usb-it913x needs the option “pid=1″ to load correctly. This option can be set permanently in the file /etc/modprobe.d/digivox.conf

options dvb-usb-it913x pid=1

Afterwards, the stick is recognized when plugged in and automatically initialized:

usb 2-1.8: new high-speed USB device number 7 using ehci_hcd
