Review of Linux Compatibility

The AVM Fritz PCI card exists in two version, v2.0 and v2.1. Both versions can be used under Linux, however, the complexity of the installation and configuration can largely vary between different kinds of Linux distributions. Due to the large availability of ISDN connections in Germany the support of ISDN cards is generally very good and simple in SuSE Linux distributions. The AVM Fritz PCI Card is supported at least since SuSE 8 an can be configured completely by the SuSE configuration tool Yast.

Configuration of the card under Ubuntu is more complicated. First, the Linux kernel image needs to be installed

sudo apt-get install linux-image-386

Afterwards, a restart of the system is necessary before executing the upcoming steps. The following packages are necessary to access the AVM Fritz Card:

sudo apt-get install linux-restricted-modules-386 libcapi20-dev libcapi20-3 capiutils pppdcapiplugin drdsl avm-fritz-firmware

The configuration of the Ubuntu system needed to use the AVM Fritz card is described in detail at: http://wiki.ubuntuusers.de/AVM_Fritz!Card_DSL
