Review of Linux Compatibility

The Brother DCP-J140W is a All-in-One printer that can be connected per and per WiFi. The device has the USB ID 04f9:02a0

Brother provides drivers for the printer on his homepage in “deb” file format an in “rpm” file format:

These files have to be installed on the Linux system, e.g. the RPM file

Afterwards, the CUPS web page can be accesed at http://localhost:631 to configure the printer. In the menue “Administration -> Add printer” one can select the Brother DCP-J140W an the necessary PPD file, which has been installed with the driver and should be located at /opt/brother/Printers/dcpj140w/cupswrapper/brother_dcpj140w_printer_en.ppd

Brother provides the driver brscan4 for accessing the scanner. This driver can be downloaded at http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/bsc/public_s/id/linux/en/download_scn.html#brscan4. After installation of the driver the scanner can also be used together with XSANE or other SANE compatible programs.

Additional information about the installation of the DCP-J140W can be fond for SuSE and Knoppix.
