Review of Linux Compatibility

The HP Officejet 6700 Premium is a All-in-One device, whose integrated ink printer reaches a resolution of up to 4.800 x 1.200 dpi and a scan resolution of up to 1.200 x 1.200 dpi. Printing and scanning is possible per WiFi and per USB.

The All-in-One device needs the HPLIP driver of at least version 3.12.4 to fully support the printer.

In Ubuntu (e.g. 12.10) the package hplip is already included. For other distributions the file can be downloaded from: http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/models/officejet/officejet_6700.html. In this case the driver has to be installed after downloading it (this will require unpacking of the file and will need root authorization):

sh hplip-3.11.7.run

In Ubuntu this step is not needed (the installation is already carried out by the package management system) and on can directly skip to the configuration of the HP Officejet 6700:

sudo hp-setup

The installation downloads a proprietary binary file from the internet. Therefore, an internet connection is needed during the configuration.
The integrated scanner can be accessed by Sane and is found by the command “sane-find-scanner”.

Further details for the tnstallation of the HPLIP driver in Ubuntu can be found at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HpAllInOne.
