Review of Linux Compatibility

The Delock USB-RJ45 adapter can be connected to the USB 2.0 port and provides a 10/100 MBit Ethernet socket. The adapter bases on the Moschip MCS7830 chipset.

Delock specificly advertises the Ethernet adapter with its Linux compatibility. According the Delock the USB adapter is supported since Linux-Kernel 2.6.11.

The adapter has the USB ID 9710:7830:

Bus 005 Device 004: ID 9710:7830 MosChip Semiconductor MCS7830 10/100 Mbps Ethernet adapter

and is accessed by the kernel with the help of the kernel module mcs7830.

Most distributions (e.g., Debian Lenny, Ubuntu Karmic) recognize and initialize the adapter automatically. In this case, the Kernel creates an additional eth interface:

usb 1-3: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 7
usb 1-3: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
usb 1-3: applying rev.C fixup
usb 1-3: applying rev.C fixup
eth2: register 'MOSCHIP usb-ethernet driver' at usb-0000:00:1d.7-3, MOSCHIP 7830/7730 usb-NET adapter, 00:11:22:33:4:55
NetworkManager: SCPlugin-Ifupdown: devices added (path: /sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1d.7/usb1/1-3/1-3:1.0
                   /net/eth5, iface: eth5)
udev: renamed network interface eth2 to eth5
NetworkManager: SCPlugin-Ifupdown: device added (path: /sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1d.7/usb1/1-3/1-3:1.0
/net/eth5, iface: eth5): no ifupdown configuration found.

If, for some reasons, the adapter is not supported automatically by the used distribution, the driver can be downloaded from the Delock homepage. It can be downloaded at: http://delock.com/produkte/F_929_Ethernet_61147/treiber.html.
