Review of Linux Compatibility

The TechnoTrend S2-3200 is a DVB-S2 TV card for the PCI slot. The card is capable to process HDTV signals and is supported since Linux kernel version 2.6.29. E.g. under Ubuntu 12.10 the card is initialized automatically.

An additional Firmware file is needed to use the S2-3200. Furthermore, the Kernel module “budget_ci” also supports the CI slot that is mounted at the backside of the card.

The card can be identified by the following output:

04:01.0 Multimedia controller: Philips Semiconductors SAA7146 (rev 01)
 Subsystem: Technotrend Systemtechnik GmbH S2-3200
 Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 64, IRQ 16
 Memory at febffc00 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=512]

The kernel uses the module saa7146 to access the card. Its initialization is announced in the following way:

saa7146: register extension 'budget_ci dvb'.
budget_ci dvb 0000:01:02.0: PCI INT A -> GSI 23 (level, low) -> IRQ 23
DVB: registering new adapter (TT-Budget S2-3200 PCI)
input: Budget-CI dvb ir receiver saa7146 (0) as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1e.0/0000:01:02.0/input/input7
[   14.087271] DVB: registering adapter 0 frontend 0 (STB0899 Multistandard)...

A description how to install the kernel modules by hand (e.g. if older kenrel versions are used) can be found at
