Review of Linux Compatibility

The Asus My Cinema U3100 Mini Plus is a USB stick with DVB-T tuner. Unfortunately Asus also offers very similar products that use incompatible chip sets. E.g. there exists a V2 of this stick with the name “My Cinema U3100 Mini Plus USB V2″. For this V2 versions now information about its Linux compatibility is available so far. (Please report your Linux experiences in the comment area). Furthermore, a version without the addition “Plus” exists (USB-ID 07ca:b835). This edition is supported by using the kernel module dib7xxx.

The version “U3100 Mini Plus” has the USB-ID 0b05:1779

Bus 002 Device 003: ID 0b05:1779 ASUSTek Computer, Inc. My Cinema U3100 Mini Plus [AF9035A]

and is supported by the Linux kernel since version 3.7. Unfortunately, this kernel version is currently not used by most of the latest Linux distribution.

The necessary firmware for the used chip set, which bases on the Afatech 9035, can be found at http://palosaari.fi/linux/v4l-dvb/firmware/af9035/. Information regarding the development of the kernel module can be found at http://www.linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/Asus_U3100_Mini_plus_DVB-T.

Attention: Please be aware that several users of this stick report that the tuner of the “Asus My Cinema U3100 Mini Plus” becomes unresponsive after several weeks of operation.
