Review of Linux Compatibility

The Asus Xonar DGX 5.1 PCI Express sound card uses the CMI8788 soundchip. The card is partly supported since Linux kernel 3.5.0 or ALSA 1.0.26. However, some functions are not supported: connection of the front panel, the headset output and the microphone input have no function with the current Linux drivers.

The card will be recognized in the following way by the kernel:

84:04.0 Multimedia audio controller: C-Media Electronics Inc CMI8788 [Oxygen HD Audio]
Subsystem: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. Device 8521
Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 64, IRQ 11
    I/O ports at f000 [size=256]
Capabilities: [c0] Power Management version 2

and the card is controlled via the kernel module snd-oxygen.

  • David says:

The card works fully (at least headphones) in Debian Jessie. Apparently support was added in kernel 3.14.
