Review of Linux Compatibility

The PCI-Express graphic card Axle NVidia GeForce 5500 is equipped with 256MB GDDR Ram and has a DVI, VGA and TV- output

The card is recognized by Linux automatically:

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation NV34 [GeForce FX 5500] (rev a1) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])

The TV output can be used with Linux with the following settings:

Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1440 x 900, maximum 4096 x 4096
VGA-1 connected 1440x900+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 410mm x 256mm
   1440x900       60.0*+   75.0  

DVI-I-1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
TV-1 connected 1024x768+200+60 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 0mm x 0mm

To install the nvidia-own non-free drivers in Ubuntu the program “Additional Drivers” has to be installed installiert werden respectively the following package is needed:

sudo apt-get install nvidia-glx
sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg

and the active driver has to be set to nvidia. After configuration of the driver by using the command

sudo nvidia-glx-config

a restart of the X-Server is necessary.
