Review of Linux Compatibility
The 24x Gigabit switch from TP-Link with a great price-performance-ratio. Due to its low price it is a good choice to be used at home as central nodal point of one’s Gigabit network. There is also a cheaper version with 16 Gigabit connections for smaller networks. Both versions use the same housing with a width of 19 inch (i.e. 48.3 cm).
The switch a always rotating fan at its right side, hence the switch always produces some backgound noise. The second edition of the switch is equipped with a quiter fan compared to the first series of the switch. Nonetheless, the fan is still audible. The fan can simply be substituted if necessary. But even after 3 years of uninterrupted operation the fan is still fully functional and sound.
The switch consumes approximately 8W in without any gigabit client connected. Each active LAN port increases the consumption by approxiamtely 0.4W, which results in a maximum power of 18-20W in case of 24 Gigabit clients.
