Review of Linux Compatibility

The Linksys WUSB6300 is a USB WiFi adapter with USB ID 13b1:003f

Bus 001 Device 002: ID 13b1:003f Linksys

The stick bases on the Realtek rtl88xxau chipset.

Although the stick is automatically recognized by the Linux kernel:

usb 1-1: new high-speed USB device number 2 using xhci_hcd
usb 1-1: New USB device found, idVendor=13b1, idProduct=003f
usb 1-1: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=3
usb 1-1: Product: WUSB6300
usb 1-1: Manufacturer: Linksys
usb 1-1: SerialNumber: 34

the necessary driver is not part of the Linux kernel. However, a driver is available at https://github.com/abperiasamy/rtl8812AU_8821AU_linux (for kernels older than 3.11 a driver can be found at https://github.com/lwfinger/rtl8723au).

In order to compile and install the driver manually, the build-essentials have to be installed. Under Ubuntu this can be achieved by

sudo apt-get install --reinstall linux-headers-$(uname -r) build-essential git

The driver needs to be downloaded, compiled and installed:

git clone https://github.com/abperiasamy/rtl8812AU_8821AU_linux
cd rtl8812AU_8821AU_linux
make
sudo make install

The driver needs to be re-compiled after each kernel update. If one uses dkms this adaption of the driver is carried out automatically:

To set it up permanently run these commands

cd ~/rtl8812AU_8821AU_linux
sudo make uninstall
make clean
sudo cp -R ~/rtl8812AU_8821AU_linux /usr/src/rtl8812AU_8821AU_linux-1.0
sudo dkms install -m rtl8812AU_8821AU_linux -v 1.0
