Review of Linux Compatibility

The HP Deskjet 3630 is an all-in-one device with printer and scanner. The device is connected via USB and has the USB ID
Bus 003 Device 002: ID 03f0:e311 Hewlett-Packard
The HP Deskjet 3630 is fully supported under Linux thanks to the HPLIP drivers provided by HP. At least the version 3.15.6 of the HPLIP drivers is necessary in order to fully support the HP Deskjet 3630. Under Ubuntu the needed drivers can be installed via the apt-get package manager:
sudo apt-get install hplip hpijs hplip-gui
Otherwise, the drivers can be downloaded from HPLIP web site. The downloaded files (eventually after unpacking them) can be installed (as root):
sh hplip-3.15.6.run
Under Ubuntu this step is not necessary (because installation is done by the package management system) and one can immediately skip to the configuration step:
sudo hp-setup

Scanner:

The scanner can be used together with XSane, which can be installed under Ubuntu by:
sudo apt-get install xsane
If the scanner is found, one can also scan with the console program
hp-scan
After placing a sheet of paper on the scan unit and presses the scan button on the printer, a file “hpscan001.png” is created in the home directory.

This printer requires hplip 3.15.6 The last version available in Synaptic is 3.14.3
My system Zorin Linux is not recognised, but Ubuntu 14.04 is listed. When you try to install the latest 3.16.3 you get told there is a missing dependency: libusb (libusb-usb Library). There is nothing with this exact description in Synaptic. I have spent a week trying to install this driver.
The printer is a waste of money, and has no value to anyone using Linux.

I tried a clean install of Zorin OS9. There are several packages missing for the hplip driver and the installer does not resolve the dependencies since Zorin is not officially supported.

Howerver, on can easily install the missing packages manually by

      sudo apt-get install libusb-1.0.0 libcups2-dev libtool libjpeg-dev xsane libsane-dev python-dev libcupsimage2-dev libsnmp-dev

      Afterwards, the installer runs flawlessly.
