Review of Linux Compatibility

The Delock 61889 Bluetooth USB stick has the USB ID 0a5c:21e8:

Bus 008 Device 002: ID 0a5c:21e8 Broadcom Corp. BCM20702A0 Bluetooth 4.0

and is automatically supported by latest Linux kernel versions thanks to the “btusb” kernel module.

BeiIf an older kernel version is used the USB ID of the Delock 61889 might be unknown to the kernel and therefore no driver is loaded. This can be corrected by modifying the file /etc/modprobe.d/medialink-btusb.conf

gksu gedit /etc/modprobe.d/medialink-btusb.conf

and adding the following line:

install usb:v0A5Cp21E8d*dc*dsc*dp*ic*isc*ip* /sbin/modprobe btusb; echo "0a5c 21e8" > /sys/bus/usb/drivers/btusb/new_id

The pairing with other bluetooth devices can be carried out by tools like “bluetoothctl”. The following command scans for other Bluetooth devices:

[NEW] Device **:**:**:**:**:** Philips SHB7000

The connection with the device can be established by entering the command

connect **:**:**:**:**:**

A USB stick with the same hardware is sold under the name “Medialink USB Bluetooth Adapter – Version 4.0″ and has the same Linux compatibility as the Delock 61778. This version of the sticks has a slightly different housing, at the front side the brand’s name “Medialink” imprinted.
