Review of Linux Compatibility

The Toshiba Satellite C50-A is a 15.6 inch laptop, which was successfully tested under Ubuntu 14.04 with a 3.13.0-27 Linux kernel for x86_64 architecture.

BIOS settings

In order to run Linux on the laptop one has to change the BIOS settings in “Advanced>System Configuration>Boot Mode” from UEFI to CSM.

WiFi

The internal WiFi card is automatically recognized by the kernel and uses the ath kernel module:

ath: phy0: WB335 2-ANT card detected
ath: phy0: Set BT/WLAN RX diversity capability
ath: phy0: Enable LNA combining
ath: phy0: ASPM enabled: 0x42
ath: EEPROM regdomain: 0x65
ath: EEPROM indicates we should expect a direct regpair map
ath: Country alpha2 being used: 00
ath: Regpair used: 0x65
ieee80211 phy0: Selected rate control algorithm 'minstrel_ht'
ieee80211 phy0: Atheros AR9565 Rev:0 mem=0xffffc90015400000, irq=16

Sound

The internal sound card is compatible with the snd_hda_intel kernel module and automatically set up by ALSA:

!!Soundcards recognised by ALSA
!!-----------------------------

 0 [PCH ]: HDA-Intel - HDA Intel PCH
HDA Intel PCH at 0x90900000 irq 106

!!PCI Soundcards installed in the system
