Review of Linux Compatibility

Canon provides Linux drivers for the Canon PIXMA MG4250 All-in-One printer at The All-in-One printer uses the MG4200 series drivers, which are available as RPM and Deb files.

The driver is installed after downloading the file MG4200series-printer_driver.tar and decompressing the Tar file nijfilter-mg5200series-3.40-1-deb.tar.gz in the following way:

cd Downloads
cd MG4200series-printer_driver
cd cnijfilter-mg4200series-3.40-1-deb
sudo ./

This will install the program scangearamp which is used to access the scanner of the All-in-One printer.

I bought a Canon MG4250 but the install disc provided was MG4200. I can’t print from my iPad as it tells me the printer connected to is the MG4200 which in know cannot be used with airdrop and thus does not work with Apple. Any solutions?

Is your MG4250 connected to an Linux or Windows PC for printing from your iPad? As far as I can see, the MG4250 uses the MG4200-series printer under Windows and Linux. There seems to be no dedicated driver for the MG4250.
