Review of Linux Compatibility
The DYMO LabelWriter 450 ist a label printer, which is connected via USB. It has the USB ID 0922:0020
Bus 003 Device 004: ID 0922:0020 Dymo-CoStar Corp. LabelWriter 450
and is supported under Linux thanks to the Linux drivers which are provided by DYMO. These drivers add the LabelWriter 450 as a CUPS compatible printer to the Linux system.
To compile this driver it is necessary to install CUPS and several libraries. These can be done under Ubuntu by:
sudo apt-get install libcups2-dev libcupsimage2-dev g++ cups cups-client
The DYMO 450 CUPS driver is available at http://download.dymo.com/Software/Linux/dymo-cups-drivers-1.4.0.tar.gz for download. The downloaded package has to be unpacked, compiled, and installed:
tar xvf dymo-cups-drivers-1.4.0.tar.gz cd dymo-cups-drivers-18.104.22.168/ sudo ./configure sudo make sudo make install
Afterwards, the LaberWriter 450 can be added as a CUPS printer.
Further details for the configuration of a DYMO LabelWriter 450 under CUPS and the access of the driver via C++ can be found at http://www.hmazter.com/raspberry-pi-printer-server-for-labelwriter.
Additionally, DYMO provides a Software Development Kit (SDK) for Linux, which provides the possibility to access the LabelWriter from one’s Linux program. More details regarding the Linux SDK can be found at http://var.dymo.com/UK/resources/sdk/linux/.
