Review of Linux Compatibility

The Hauppauge WinTV Impact VCB is a PCI card (not to be mixed up with the VCB-e version, which is a PCI-Express card) is a very simple card for capture video. It has only video-in (2 x composite, 1x s-video) but no tuners.

The card is perfect for webcam captures or video surveillance (CCTV) but has low quality for analogic capture (e.g. via mencoder, ffmpeg, gstreamer), because a lot of frames are skipped and hence audio gets out of sync.

The card has the PCI-ID 109e:036e and is automatically recognized by the Linux kernel:

The card is supported under Linux and works with the bttv module. However, the following parameters have to be provided to the bttv kernel module:

modprobe bttv card=82 tuner=4

With these options, the driver is loaded with the following log messages:

Linux video capture interface: v2.00
