The Acer Aspire 8930G runs perfectly under Kubuntu 14.04 beta1. All components are automatically recognized by the Linux kernel and fully supported.

Hardware properties of the 8930G:

  • Intel Core 2 Quad Q9000
  • Nvidia GeForce GTM 9800
  • Intel WLAN 5100

Under Mint 13 and Mint 16 two problem occur:

  • No support of 5.1 sound, only stereo sound is supported
  • SD cards inserted into the internal card reader are only recognized if the SD card was already inserted before booting the kernel.
