The Buffalo WLI-UC-G300HP exists in two version, which use different chipsets and hence have differentUSB IDs.
The version with the USB ID 0411:0148 is identified by the Linux kernel in the following way:

The stick bases on the Ralink RT2870 chipset, which is automatically supported by the Linux kernel modul rt2800usb since kernel version v2.6.34.
The second version of the sticks sometimes can be recognized by the addition “-V1″, which is appended to its name. However, not all retailer use this ID. The stick has the USB ID 0411:01a8 and is shown by the Linux kernel in the following way:

on older system sometimes also as

The WLI-UC-G300HP-V1 bases on the Ralink RT3072 chipset and is automatically recognized and fully supported by the Linux kernel module rt2800usb since kernel version v3.12:
