Review of Linux Compatibility

The WMP54G PCI WiFi card from Linksys (Cisco) exists in at least two different versions. The version V2 has the PCI-ID 14e4:432b:

Broadcom Corporation BCM4322 802.11a/b/g/n Wireless LAN Controller [14e4:432b]

The network card is fully supported under Linux, however it needs the installation of firmware file. Without the firmware file the following error message will be cast by the kernel:

b43-phy0 ERROR: Firmware file "b43/ucode15.fw" not found
b43-phy0 ERROR: Firmware file "b43-open/ucode15.fw" not found
b43-phy0 ERROR: You must go to and download the correct firmware for this driver version. Please carefully read all instructions on this website.
b43-phy0: Loading firmware version 478.104 (2008-07-01 00:50:23)
b43-phy0: Radio hardware status changed to DISABLED

The firmware file can be installed under by the tool “Additional driver”: “System > Administration > Additional Drivers”, in which the Broadcom driver needs to be activated.
