Review of Linux Compatibility

It is possible to install and test the developer version of Ubuntu Touch on the Nexus 7. Please be aware that this software is an early developer version which does not support all functions of the tablet.

To install Ubuntu Touch on the Nexus 7 the already installed system has to be replaced. This replacement is not covered by the manufacturer’s warranty and has to be done on one’s own responsibility.

To install Ubuntu Touch on the Nexus 7 the two zip files ARMHF and Grouper are needed.

Both files have to be copied to the internal memory of the Nexus 7. After rebooting and going into the “Custom Recovery” mode files and cache have to be deleted. The two files Grouper and ARMHF have to be installed afterwards (necessarily in this order).

After a restart the Ubuntu Touch surface is available on the Tablet.

A short overview of the Ubuntu Touch features can be found at http://www.androidnext.de/schwerpunkt/ubuntu-phone-erster-eindruck-der-entwicklerversion/ (in German).
