Review of Linux Compatibility

The Diamond VC500 is a USB 2.0 video grabber. The device exists in two different versions

Ver1 (07de:2820)

This older version has the USB-ID 07de:2820

Bus 005 Device 008: ID 07de:2820 Diamond Multimedia VC500 Video Capture Dongle

This version is currently not supported automatically by the Linux kernel.

VC500 CXT Version (1f4d:0102)

The second version, which is shipped under the same name, has the USB-ID 1f4d:0102:

Bus 001 Device 006: ID 1f4d:0102 G-Tek Electronics Group

uses the same hardware as the August VGB100 or the OTG102.

Bus 001 Device 003: ID 1f4d:0102 G-Tek Electronics Group

It is therefore automatically supported by the Linux kernel since version 3.10 and uses the kernel module cx231xx as driver.
