Review of Linux Compatibility

The Logitech M705 (also available under the name “Marathon Mouse” due to its long battery lifetime) is automatically supported under Linux (e.g., since Ubuntu 9.04).
The communication with the PC is established by the included Logitech Unifying Receiver, which is shown by the Linux kernel in the following way:

Bus 003 Device 005: ID 046d:c52b Logitech, Inc. Unifying Receiver

Also the special buttons are supported, like
1) thumb button for selecting forwards and backwards
2) middle mouse button
3) tilting the middle button to its right and left side

It is recommended to use this Logitech mouse under Linux with the program Solaar. If several wireless Logitech devices are used in parallel together with one Unifying Receiver Solaar can be used to manage the connected devices. Furthermore, it shows the battery status of the mouse.

Solaar is not part of the Ubuntu distribution, but but can be included to the package management system with the following command:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:daniel.pavel/solaar
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install solaar
