Review of Linux Compatibility

The DVB-S2 PCI-Express card Cine S2 V6.5 from Digital Devices is the successor of the card with identical name of version V6.

The card has the PCI ID dd01:0003 and is recognized by Linux:

02:00.0 Multimedia controller [0480]: Digital Devices GmbH Octopus LE DVB adapter [dd01:0003]
Subsystem: Digital Devices GmbH Device [dd01:0021]
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 17
    	Memory at fbef0000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=64K]
Capabilities: [50] Power Management version 3
    	Capabilities: [70] MSI: Enable- Count=1/2 Maskable- 64bit+
Capabilities: [90] Express Endpoint, MSI 00
    	Capabilities: [100] Vendor Specific Information: ID=0000 Rev=0 Len=00c <?>
    	Kernel driver in use: DDBridge
    	Kernel modules: ddbridge

The card uses the kernel module ddbridge which is initialized automatically:

ddbridge: Add Digital Devices Cine S2 V6.5
saa716x_ff: Protect reading of the captured video with a mutex.
DDBridge driver detected: Digital Devices Cine S2 V6.5 DVB adapter

Unfortunaltey, the kernel modules ddbridge and dvb_core included in Ubuntu 13.04 are not compatible with the Cine S2 V6.5. Instead, a later version of the package

media-build-experimental-dkms

needs to be installed, which chan be found at https://launchpad.net/~yavdr/+archive/main/+packages.

After loading the module both DVB-S2 tuners are accessible. The following devices are available on the Linux system:

/dev/ddbridge/card0
/dev/dvb/adapter0
/dev/dvb/adapter1
