Review of Linux Compatibility

The Brother P-touch (PT-2430PC) is a label maker, which is connected to the PC via USB. The PT-2430PC has to be filled with 6 AAA batteries. In order to print from Linux itis necessary that the switch on the housing is set to “E” and not “EL”.

After connecting the PT-2430PC to the PC the device needs to be configured as CUPS Printer (by using the P-Touch driver). One has to select “Brother PT2430PC” as model and “GENERIC TEXT PRINTER” in CUPS.

Warning: The needed CUPS driver seems to be unavailable in the meantime. Therefore, this device can only be used in a limited way under Linux and therefore is not recommended any longer.

In order to print labels one can use the program B-Label. This program needs the libraries:

sudo apt-get install libgd-gd2-perl libgtk2-gladexml-perl

to function. After downloadeing the program B-Label from the B-Label webseite the program is started, e.g., via

blabel
