Review of Linux Compatibility

The D-Link DCS-930L is a surveillance camera with Ethernet connection and WiFi support for indoor usage. The camera streams pictures and videos in a resolutions of 640 x 480 pixel. After configuring the IP address of the camera the video stream can be accessed under the address

[<USER>:<PASS>@]<CAM IP/HOSTNAME>/image/jpeg.cgi

The IP camera is also equipped with four infra-red LEDs of approximately 5 meters of range and hence allows recording at darkness.

The DCS-932L is shipped with a set-up software which is only compatible with Windows. After performing the set-up of the IP cam (under windows) the camera can be controlled independent of operating systems in a web browser.

Under Linux the Open-Source Software ZoneMinder can be used together with the Axis camera: which can be installed in Ubuntu via the package management system:

sudo apt-get install zoneminder

There even is a MythTV plugin (MythZoneMinder), which allows access to the video stream from the TV:
. This plugin can be installed in Debian based distributions by:

sudo apt-get install mythzoneminder

A detailed article explaining the installation and usage of ZoneMinder can be found at http://www.tuxradar.com/content/build-your-own-surveillance-zoneminder.
