Review of Linux Compatibility

The Microsoft LifeCam NX-3000 is a USB Webcam with the USB-ID 045e:0721:

Bus 002 Device 005: ID 045e:0721 Microsoft Corp. LifeCam NX-3000 (UVC-compliant)

The webcam is supported by the uvcvideo kernel module.

The loading of the kernel module seems to fail in some cases:

usb 2-1.2: new high-speed USB device number 5 using ehci-pci
usb 2-1.2: New USB device found, idVendor=045e, idProduct=0721
usb 2-1.2: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=0
usb 2-1.2: Product: Microsoft LifeCam NX-3000
usb 2-1.2: Manufacturer: Microsoft
Linux video capture interface: v2.00
uvcvideo: Found UVC 1.00 device Microsoft LifeCam NX-3000 (045e:0721)
usbcore: registered new interface driver snd-usb-audio
uvcvideo: UVC non compliance - GET_DEF(PROBE) not supported. Enabling workaround.
uvcvideo: Failed to query (129) UVC probe control : -32 (exp. 26).
uvcvideo: Failed to initialize the device (-5).
usbcore: registered new interface driver uvcvideo
USB Video Class driver (1.1.1)

In these situation it helps to load the uvcvideo kernel module with an additional option that can be set in the file /etc/modprobe.d/uvcvideo.conf

options uvcvideo quirks=0x100
