Review of Linux Compatibility

The Acer Aspire v3-571G is fully supported by Linux. At some vendors it was possible to buy this Laptop from Asus already with preinstalled Linpus Linux. Currently this version seems not to be offered any longer.

The V3-571G ist available in several Linux compatible versions, e.g. as Acer Aspire V3 571G-53214G50Makk with 2,5GHz Intel Core i5 3210M CPU.

The WiFi chipset (Broadcom BCM43228) is fully supported since Ubuntu 12.10 (i.e. since kernel version 3.5.0-19).

If the brightness control of the Display is not possible with the laptop’s function keys, a kernel optionen needs to be activated. This kernel option can be set in “grub” already during the system start-up. In order to set this option one has to edit the file /etc/default/grub and modifies row 11 from

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash"

into

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash acpi_backlight=vendor"

The change will be saved for Grub if the following command is executed

sudo update-grub
