Review of Linux Compatibility

The Epson Perfection V600 (model identification B11B198011) is a USB-Scanner with the USB ID 04b8:013a. The scanner is fully supported by Linux (e.g. can be used with Ubuntu since version 9.10 – Karmic) an can also be used together with SANE.

To access the Epson Perfection V600 under Linux, the corresponding Linux scanner driver have to be downloaded from Epson. These files install the scan program iScan and also include the plugin file iscan-plugin-gt-x820, which enables the use of the scanner with SANE, the XSANE GUI and the command line.

The following packages are needed to acces the V600:

ii iscan 2.29.1-5~usb0.1.ltdl7
ii iscan-data 1.22.0-1
ii iscan-plugin-gt-x820 2.2.0-1

The scanner will be identified by SANE in the following way:

found USB scanner (vendor=0x04b8 [EPSON], product=0x013a [EPSON Scanner]) at libusb:003:004

The scanner can also be used with the generic SANE driver, but does only provide limited set of features in this case.
