The HP Officejet 6500A is a All-in-One device that is available with and without WiFi support. Both versions are fully supported by Linux. (Additionally, a very different but similarly named version HP Officejet 6500 is available).
HP Officejet 6500 e710a-f
The version HP Officejet 6500 e710a-f, has not WiFi support and has to be connected per USB 2.0. This model has the USB ID
Bus 001 Device 004: ID 03f0:5512 Hewlett-Packard
and is supported in Linux by the HPLIP drivers since version 3.11.1.
HP Oficejet 6500 e710n-z
The model with WiFi has the name HP Oficejet 6500 e710n-z and needs a HPLIP driver of version 3.10.9 or higher. This version has the USB ID

The HP Linux Imaging and Printing (HPLIP) driver is available as OpenSource and can be downloaded fromhttp://sourceforge.net/projects/hplip/files/hplip/.
The downloaded file has to be unpacked and can be installed afterwards by the command
After connecting the Officejet 6500A the printer can be configured by the command
The integrated scanner can be used with Sane. the command sane-find-scanner searches for the connected device:
