Review of Linux Compatibility

The LevelOne USB-0401 USB adapter provides a Gigabit Ethernet port for the USB port. Although the adapter supports Gigabit Ethernet, the transfer rate is limited due to the usage of USB-2.0 to less than 450 Mbit/s.

The adapter has the USB ID 0b95:772a and is identified by Linux in the following way:

Bus 005 Device 002: ID 0b95:772a ASIX Electronics Corp. AX88772A Fast Ethernet

The device needs the kernel module asix for operation of the chipset Digitus DN-10050-1, which is used in the adapter. If the adapter is not initialized automatically by the Linux distribution, the driver can be downloaded from the following address:
http://www.asix.com.tw/FrootAttach/driver/AX88772B_772A_760_772_178_LINUX_Driver_v4.2.0_Source.zip.

In this cae a unloading of an maybe already loaded but not working kernel module is necessary:

modprobe -r asix

the downloaded driver has to be compiled and installed:

make
sudo make install

And the new module has to be loaded:

modprobe asix
