Review of Linux Compatibility

The Digitus DN-3023 is a Gigabit Ethernet adapter for USB 3.0. Therefore, the adapter is not limited (e.g. like the LevelOne USB 0401) by the maximum transfer rate of the USB-2.0 bus.

The adapter has the USB ID 0b95:1790 and is fully supported by Linux

Bus 009 Device 002: ID 0b95:1790 ASIX Electronics Corp.

The Digitus DN-3023 bases on the AX88179 chipset. The corresponding Linux driver is provided by the manufacturer of the chipset and can be downloaded here .

If the adapter is not automatically recognized by the kernel after plugging it in, the driver has to be downloaded and compiled: http://www.asix.com.tw/FrootAttach/driver/AX88179_178A_LINUX_DRIVER_v1.3.0_SOURCE.tar.bz2

Compilation of the driver needs the Kernel header files, which can be installed in Ubuntu in the following way:

apt-get install linux-headers-generic

After unpacking the Linux driver package, the driver can be compiled and installed by performing the following commands in the newly created folder:

make
make install
