Review of Linux Compatibility

Devolo sells a WiFi range extender as part of its Devolo dLAN 200 AVplus Starter Kit product series. This device connects the PowerLAN (aka. Powerline or dLAN) to the WiFi network.

Special Linux software is needed for the configuration of the Devolo dLAN 200 AV Wireless. This software can be downloaded at the Devolo homepage: http://www.devolo.de/downloads/software/software-dlan-wlan-extender-linux-1.tar.gz

After unpacking the file by means of:

dLAN_Wireless_extender-Linux-v1_2007-03-16/find_dlan_wireless_extender.sh

the included script can be started:

cd dLAN_Wireless_extender-Linux-v1_2007-03-16/
./find_dlan_wireless_extender.sh

The software needs the libstdc++.so.5. This can cause error messages, if this library is not installed:

Version 1 (2007-03-16)

Searching for dLAN Wireless extender...

./list_faq_devices: error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++.so.5:
cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
No device found.

In this case, the file libstdc++5 (for Ubuntu) has to be downloaded and installed with the package manager.
Afterwards, the the Devolo range extender can be configured with the help of the installed web interface.
