Review of Linux Compatibility

The Technotrend TT S2-1600 is a budget TV card for the PCI slot, i.e. the card has no MPEG chip. Therefore, the video deco has to be processed software based and hence needs CPU power.
The card supports HDTV and is fully supported by Linux since at least kernel version 2.6.36. The card does not need additional firmware and can be identified in the following way:

01:06.0 Multimedia controller: Philips Semiconductors SAA7146 (rev 01)
Subsystem: Technotrend Systemtechnik GmbH Device 101c
Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 64, IRQ 16
        Memory at faeffc00 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=512]
Kernel driver in use: budget dvb
        Kernel modules: budget

The card uses the kernel module “budget”. If this module is not already part of the Linux distribution kernel it can be compiled as part of the V4L-DVB drivers

cd /usr/src
hg clone
cd v4l-dvb
make install

Afterwards, the card gets initialized by the kernel module in the following way:

saa7146: register extension ‘budget dvb’
saa7146: found saa7146 @ mem f8432000 (revision 1, irq 21) (0x13c2,0x101c)
saa7146 (0): dma buffer size 192512
DVB: registering new adapter (TT-Budget S2-1600 PCI)
adapter has MAC addr = 00:11:22:33:44:55
