TP-Link TL-WN851ND (WiFi, Network Card, PCI)
Review of Linux Compatibility
The TP-Link TL-WN851ND is a PCI wireless card with 300 MBit (802.11n) transmission rate and bases on the Atheros chipset (Atheros AR9227).
The card has the PCI ID 168c:002d and is supported out-of-the-box since Ubuntu 10.04 (Linux kernel version 2.6.32) without the need of additional configuration:
00:09.0 Network controller : Atheros Communications Inc. Device [168c:002d] (rev 01)
The kernel module ath9k is used as a driver. This module gets loaded automatically:
ath9k 0000:01:09.0: PCI INT A -> Link[LNKB] -> GSI 19 (level, low) -> IRQ 19

The PCI WiFi card has the following capabilities:
description: Wireless interface
product: Atheros Communications Inc.
vendor: Atheros Communications Inc.
physical id: 8
bus info: pci@0000:01:08.0
logical name: wlan0
width: 32 bits
capabilities: pm bus_master cap_list ethernet physical wireless
configuration: broadcast=yes driver=ath9k driverversion=2.6.32-36-generic
firmware=N/A latency=168 link=no multicast=yes wireless=IEEE
There was a bug in the ath9k kernel driver that resulted in a freeze of the whole system while using the TL-WN851ND. This bug got patched in Linux kernel 3.5-rc6.
